Here are several treats for your feet that will revive them and make you feel like dancing.
After a long day on your feet, try to stay off of them as much as possible. Gather everything you will need for the evening and put it in a convenient location. Don’t forget your portable phone or laptop so that you can stay in touch with people while you baby your feet.
If your feet have that “burning” feeling that comes from working them too hard, try these ideas to cool them off. An icy footbath works great if you are really tough. It may be painful to plunge your feet in, but you will definitely feel refreshed. Peppermint lotion or gel is cooling too, if you would rather have a less extreme solution. Just rub it in and feel the tingle.
Try a good soak in some water treated with an essential oil. Use lavender for a calming, cooling sensation. It should relax you and get you prepped for a good night’s sleep. If you need to go out again in the evening, use an essential oil like citrus or ginger than will invigorate you.
Try to sit or lie down with your feet higher than your heart for at least ten minutes. 20 or 30 minutes would be even better. If you can get your feet above the level of your head, you will encourage good circulation even more.
When you return to a sitting position, roll a bottle, rolling pin or tennis ball around with your feet. Be sure to use both feet equally, and get the ball to cover all the parts of your foot you can reach. This exercise will help you to have flexible ankles, and toes, and get the blood pumping in your feet again. It’s almost as good as having someone give you a foot massage.
Practice picking up a pen or pencil with your toes. This maneuver builds coordination, too and if you can do it with both feet at the same time you’ll get even greater circulatory benefits.
If you have thick calluses on your feet that give you problems, try a salt rub. Use about a tablespoon of salt mixed with ½ teaspoon of any fragrant oil you like. Rub it into your feet, concentrating on your heels and other callused areas for about five minutes on each foot. Rinse it off and follow with a good moisturizing lotion. Your feet will feel smooth and supple, and much less tired. You can also use this mixture on your knees or elbows if they are rough or cracked.
When you go to bed at night, consider putting a pillow under your feet to keep them elevated. If they are dry, rub some lotion or oil on at bedtime and wear light cotton socks. You’ll wake up in the morning with feet that are raring to go.
