The Best Treatment for Cellulite

Do you feel guilty pleasure in taking a peek at the tabloids that feature pictures of celebrities in swimsuits with red arrows pointing to the areas where they have cellulite?  If you do, then you are not alone.  It seems that these issues are on the stand at the grocery store several times a month, because for women who have cellulite on their hips, buttocks or thighs, it is highly validating to see that this unattractive phenomenon occurs in even the most beautiful women.

Cellulite is a lumpy, dimpled area of the skin that appears in the softer areas of a woman's body: the hips, thighs, buttocks and even tummy.  It seems a cruel joke that this condition almost never occurs in men, no matter how overweight they may be.  Most people attribute the appearance of cellulite to a woman being overweight, but cellulite actually occurs all types of women, even those who are thin and healthy.  One reason that men do not usually see cellulite is that it is caused by estrogen and other hereditary factors.  The cause of cellulite is when fat pushes through the connective tissue of the skin.  This is what creates that bumpy, dimpled look that is considered so unsightly.  Fat does not cause cellulite; it’s actually the connective tissue in the skin that is too loose and allows the fat to push through.

Now that you know the true cause of cellulite, what can you do about it? There are hundreds of thousands of remedies and treatments for cellulite that may cost you hundreds of thousands of dollars to try if you are devoted to curing your skin of this unattractive blight.  Some of your options include: lasers, liposuction, exercises, massages and rollers, dietary supplements, creams and other topical treatments, scrubbers, sponges and special pants that are designed to compress your skin.

Which of these will cure your cellulite?  The answer is that none of them will.  There is no definitive cure for cellulite.  Some treatments such as massage, rollers, wraps and lasers will appear to help cellulite because they push the fat deeper into the skin and keep it from pushing out through the connective tissues and creating that unattractive dimple.  If these treatments do anything, it is only a temporary improvement.  There are all types of pills and herbal supplements that claim to improve the appearance of cellulite but there is absolutely no scientific evidence that any of these remedies are effective.  In addition, none of the creams, gels or lotions that claim to combat cellulite will give you any help.  None of these products are able to penetrate the skin deeply enough to do anything about the loose connective tissues that causes the problem in the first place.

So, since there is no cure for cellulite, are you doomed to look the way you do forever?  Fortunately, the answer is no.  You can improve the appearance of your cellulite; you just can't cure it.  Here are some tips to diminish cellulite.

-Stop smoking.  There are so many health reasons to stop smoking, and this is just one more. There is actually scientific evidence that smoking may make cellulite worse.

-Exercise.  You can do cardio and strength-training workouts to keep the muscles in your legs toned and stop excess fluid from forming in your legs, which can make your cellulite areas look better.

-Lose weight.  Even though fat does not cause cellulite, if you are overweight it will certainly make it worse.  If you lose some weight the appearance of your cellulite will improve.

-Massage.  This will help to push the fat back down beneath the connective tissue.  Get massages from friends or family and save the money you would have spend to get an expensive cellulite treatment.
