I guess I am like millions of other people around the world. I'm always either enjoying life (and food) a little too much, or I'm trying to take off the extra pounds that I accumulated while I was having fun. Over the course of a lifetime, I have tried just about every conceivable method for fat loss, including starving myself on a strict low-fat plan, gorging on meat, eggs and cheese while following a low-carb diet, and experimenting with a few outrageous fads.

All the plans that I followed had some pluses and minuses. Some required weighing, measuring, keeping food diaries, and counting calories. Others made me constantly hungry. Some required learning lots of complicated new recipes. Others mandated that I attend weekly meetings. Some cost a fortune in materials and high-priced meals. Others had me subsisting on one or two foods like lettuce or hard-boiled eggs. Most did result in some weight loss, but were so monotonous that the motivation to stay with them soon vanished.

Since I've found the Fat Loss 4 Idiots plan, however, the story is different. It is simple to follow, requires no weighing or measuring of food, fits into my regular grocery budget, and provides a variety of foods every day. It's an individualized plan that is formulated just for me based on my own favorite foods. The meals are easy to prepare, and best of all, the plan really works to facilitate fat loss. Here are the details of this terrific method.

The Basic Premise

Fat Loss 4 Idiots speaks to dieters by challenging all of their previously held notions of what it means to diet. It says that you must forget everything you've ever heard about carbs, calories, fat, fiber, and portion control. The plan works by recommending carefully controlled combinations of food that are to be consumed four times a day. It is very important to avoid eating a large amount at any one time.

Eat Four Times a Day

According to the experts at FL4I, your body will store fat any time you consume more calories than you use for energy. This is true not only for the food you eat in a day, but also for what you have for each meal. You want to divide your daily consumption into four relatively equal meals and eat them at least 2 1/2 hours apart.

So diets that call for you to drink some kind of shake or eat a "replacement bar" for two meals and then eat one "regular" meal each day are providing exactly the wrong advice. If you try to pack most of your nutrition into one meal a day, you are almost certainly going to overeat at that meal, and that is not an efficient way to promote fat loss.

On Fat Loss 4 Idiots, you never have to measure the amount of food you eat, or limit the quantity in any way. The rule you do need to follow is to stop eating as soon as you begin to feel satisfied. Don't leave yourself hungry, but never stuff yourself either. Any time you eat too much at one sitting, some of those calories are stored as fat, and that is what you want to avoid.

Don't Worry About Fat, Carbs, Protein, or Calories

On the Fat Loss 4 Idiots plan, you never have to read food labels or memorize the number of fat grams in food. There is no carb counting and no hunting for low fat products. The creators of the diet understand that low-fat and low-carb plans both have significant drawbacks.

Even though the food industry and some members of the medical community have promoted low-fat diets for years, those plans have been very unsuccessful at achieving fat loss in most people. Trick Your Body Into Letting Go of Fat

The FL4I experts explain this phenomenon by the following reasoning. Your body is miraculously made to utilize just about the same number of calories that it receives daily. If you are eating around 2000 calories a day and not gaining weight, that means your body is burning about 2000 calories a day. If you drop to 1200 calories, you'll lose weight for a while, but within a relatively short period of time, your body realizes that the availability of food has been restricted, so it starts burning less. Now, you are maintaining your weight while only eating 1200 calories a day…not a good thing if you need to keep losing.

So, how do you avoid this problem? The answer is by "tricking" your body into burning fat on a consistent basis, even though your total number of calories is probably lower than it was before. That's one of the biggest reasons for the four-meal-a-day aspect of the FL4I plan. If you think of your body as a furnace, and the food you eat as the fuel that keeps it going, you might get a better idea of how it works. The whole idea is to keep that furnace burning at a steady rate all day long by "stoking" the fire with four meals. You don't want to go too long between meals, or the furnace runs out of fuel and the fire goes out. On the other hand, you don't want to overload your furnace with too much fuel at any one time. That is inefficient and is sure to cause waste (or in this case, waist!).

Plenty of Variety

When you follow the Fat Loss 4 Idiots plan, you eat lots of different foods. Some days are lower in carbohydrates than others; some days consist of meals made up of mostly of fresh fruits or veggies. You can enjoy lots of lean chicken, ham, and beef, as well as cheese and eggs on the plan. There are also times when you eat high carb items such as oatmeal, sandwiches, and pasta. All the variety is good for two reasons. First, it doesn't tend to get tedious to follow the plan, and second, you are sure to get nutrients from all of the basic food groups.

Because you eat different foods with different nutritional properties from day to day, your body is fooled into burning fat. Rather than falling into a predictable routine that causes your body to hold on to every calorie and store it as fat, this diet keeps the metabolism humming along like a fat-burning machine. The combinations of food that you eat while following Fat Loss 4 Idiots are carefully controlled to provide the best fat-burning results, and you never get hungry enough for your body to go into "starvation mode." But the best news of all is still to come!

Three Free Days

After you have finished the first eleven days of your eating plan, you are instructed to take three days off! That means that you can eat whatever you want for three whole days. There are no rules about what you should consume during this time, except the basic one that says, "Don't eat too much at one sitting." So, as long as you don't stuff yourself, you can enjoy all your favorites for three days.

This tactic accomplishes a couple of important things. First, it is much easier to stick with the plan if you know that you can have a favorite treat in a few days. Second, it is another way to keep your body's metabolism working. The three free days provide motivation and increased fat-burning capabilities.

When your free days are over, you go back online, choose your favorite foods, (they can be the same as for the first eleven days, or different if you wish) and start the process again. This process can be repeated indefinitely until you have the new, slim body you've always wanted.

The Upside

As you can tell from what I have written so far, I think there are lots of positive things about this program. I like the fact that the meals are simple to prepare. I like the fact that I'm not completely eliminating any basic food group from my diet. I have tons of energy when following Fat Loss 4 Idiots, and I'm rarely hungry.

I enjoy the three free days that I'm allowed every two weeks. I've even been known to freeze a piece of birthday cake from a celebration which fell in the middle of one of my eleven-day cycles until my free days came along, so I could savor it then.

I also like the fact that Fat Loss 4 Idiots is individualized just for me. Because the diet generator is online, I get to choose the foods that will be included in my menus. That way, I can decide not to select broiled flounder, which has never been a favorite of mine, and it will not appear on my meal plans.

The entire eating plan can be downloaded from the website in just a few minutes. I think this is great because there is no waiting for books or materials to arrive. You can read your menus right away, and get started on you fat loss goal. If you are like me, when motivation hits, you want to begin immediately, and this diet allows that.

It is perfect for people who feel they cannot stick to a regimented plan, folks who are ready to maintain their weight loss, or those who don't have a ton of weight to lose. So, for only $39, you are actually getting two great diets. That is so much more reasonably priced than many fat loss plans out there. In fact, some of the highly publicized diets that require you to purchase lots of pre-packaged meals could cost that much every three days!

The Downside

I don't really see any downside with the eating plan, because I am having such success with it, and because I feel great and am confident that I'm doing something that is going to benefit my health.

If I have any complaint about Fat Loss 4 Idiots, it would be that the claims of extremely rapid weight loss might be exaggerated. The homepage states that you can lose nine pounds every eleven days. While some people could have results like that, I have not. But I'm happy with the weight I have lost (about 4-6 pounds each cycle) and the improvement in my appearance. In my opinion, the FL4I creators do not have to make such grandiose claims in order to get customers. The plan works, and it's good for you…that should be enough of a selling point.

The Bottom Line

The Fat Loss 4 Idiots plan really is worth a try. Right now, the diet's creators are offering another downloadable book to complement the FL4I materials. It is called Beyond Calories and is filled with valuable pointers to keep you motivated. Many folks use it as an alternative to the basic plan for a few days to keep things interesting and jumpstart their fat loss efforts. It is only $16.95 when you order the FL4I materials, and it is a real bargain at that price.

If you are tired of having your weight bounce up and down like a yo-yo, you owe it to yourself to give this eating plan a closer look. It has been more effective for me than anything else I have used. That's why I'm proud to consider myself an idiot…because the diet works for me, and I think it will work for you, too.
